Issue 5 Awards
Some congratulations are
in order this month. On the competition front, Ken Koupal
won a first place for his vienna lager at the Marin
Amateur Society of Homebrewers competition in late March.
Ken beat out Lisa, who won a second place for her bock,
and our IPA took a first as well. Ken also won a second
in the same competition for his Belgian Dubbel.
Mike and I took the Beer
Judge exam in late January and we finally heard back
about our scores. Mike met his goal of scoring at least
70, which makes him a Recognized beer judge. Five more
experience points and hell be Certified. I took the
exam last year in Nashville, so I only re-took the
tasting portion of the exam in Santa Rosa. I improved my
score, giving me an 82 overall. When I hit twenty
experience points, Ill be a National beer judge. A
score of 90 and fifty experience points gets you Master
beer judgea difficult level to achieve.
