Portland Brew
Crawl Lucky
Labrador
We got on the bus again
and went across town to check out one of our favorite
bars Luck Lab. It's on the other side of the river from
our hotel. We met some local couple blitz out of there
mind and looking for someplace to continue. We mentioned
the Lucky Lab and they ended up going our way. You get
the impression that Lucky Lab is not super well known
since they had never heard of it and it seemed that they
made a point of checking out pubs.
We didn't bother to eat
this time because we needed the room for beer. We started
out with Scotch Ale but it didnt much taste like a
scotch ale to me since it was very hoppy and dark. I
guess its sort of a Scotch ale for hop heads. The Old
Yeller Barleywine was pretty good even though I guess I
expected a paler concoction. At least it was closer to
what I expected for a barley wine at OG 1.096. and
finishing in the twenties. Dark color with Carmel taste
predominating and some hops.
They also have a great set
of brewery T-shirts but I think I bought them all the
last year I was there.
The best way to enjoy the
place is to hang out on the dock outside in the
summertime. The ambiance is akin to an industrial
warehouse and the bar is really close. Of course, we
where there late at night and it was winter so it really
wasn't a good idea to hang out there this time.
