a Great Success
This year's annual Holiday
Party was held at John and Ann Pyles house, and catered
by Gigi CaseEighteen members and guests enjoyed the food,
beer, desserts, chocolates, and gift exchange.
There was an abundance of
beer, with kegs of beer from John, Harry, Bruce, Bob, and
John; a keg of mead from Roger; and a bunch of bottled
beers from Thor, Charlie, and others.
After a suitable interval
of talk, beer, appetizers, and gadgets, we enjoyed a
spectacular dinner of salad, Austrian-style barbecued
spare ribs, potatoes au gratin, squash lasagna and dinner
rolls. We followed dinner with desserts of chocolate
creme puffs, apple cake, and chocolate truffles.
This year's gift exchange
was as spirited as ever with the most popular items (bag
o' Belgian and box o' Belgian) changing hands many times.
As always, glassware was a popular item this year, with
glassware items including: four 1996 Anchor Holiday Ale
glasses, a six-pack of Pilsner Urquell and two matching
glasses, a giant Gordon Biersch mug, a set of four mugs
with handles, and others that my feeble mind has
forgotten. Many of the participants thought that this
year's "lightning round" was much too short at
three minutes. But, in the end, everyone seemed happy
with their gifts, or with the after-the-bell deals they
made.
We would like to thank
John and Ann Pyles for generously hosting our annual
event. John and Ann's house is perfect for holiday
entertaining, and we're thankful for sharing it.
The club also acknowledges
the contributions of the Christmas Party Site Selection
Committee (John, Harry, and Thor) for their work in
evaluating sites and possiblities.
