Celebrating 20 years of
Homebrewing

7June Meeting
by Charlie Webster
Junes
meeting was held once again at Brewmaster. The highlight
of the meeting was the hardware roundtable discussion,
where members demonstrated their brewing equipment and
shared ideas. There were two presentations on brewery
equipment.
Mike Wood
brought in his mash tun. Details on Mikes mash tun
are published inside this newsletter.
I talked
about the "2-cooler" brewery, complete with
visual aids.
Membership
cards were distributed and we discussed the pub crawl
tentatively scheduled for the Fall. Someone suggested a
Peninsula trip by CalTrain, which was well received. I
have done some research on bus prices and will present
them at the next regular meeting (August).
Tom Baird
donated two 50 lb sacks of grain for our evaluation. Each
bag was split in to at least 4 ways with promises
extracted to use it and report back. The grain is the new
Scotmalt that Tom is carrying. One sack was the Chariot
Pale Ale malt (which Tom says will be priced similar to
the Great Western malt) and the other was the Golden
Promise Pale Ale malt (which he says will be priced
similar to Hugh Baird). We tasted some of each, and
remarked that the kernel size seemed a little small
compared to other malts. Scotmalt also produces kits
under the Ironmaster, Telfords, & Glenbrew labels and
is responsible for that abomination known as the
Brewsack. I hope someone has brewed with the malt to
report at the picnic.
PICNIC
As for the
picnic, we' did not find a suitable site in time for
July, so the picnic has been postponed until August 9th. Instead, there will be a regular
meeting at Brewmaster on July 12th at 2:00 pm. The
style-of-the-month is still "Picnic Style" so
please bring what you brewed at the May Group Brew-In.
The roundtable discussion is "Water" so bring
your water analysis questions.
