Meeting Notes
Demonstration:
Bruce Brazil taught a homebrewing class at Brewmaster on
January 18th. The class was included as part of a beer
making kit sold in the shop. Bruce represented The
Draught Board and volunteered his time for the afternoon
session. He used the 3-tiered setup at Brewmaster to
demonstrate techniques.
BABO
Preparations: John Pyles gave a progress report on
BABO. Prizes have been donated from numerous shops;
T-shirts are being printed and co-sponsored, and ribbons
are on order. 21 judges have been contacted. Stewards are
being prepared. Calibration beers are being collected.
Entries:
As of 6:45 pm Saturday (1/18/97) - Pale Ale 22, IPA 11,
Bock 0, Barley Wine 8, Stout 12, Porter 19, Holiday 16,
Mead 7, for a total of 95 entries.
Set up and
Stewards meeting begins at 9:30 am on Saturday,
February 1, at Hop Yard Alehouse in Pleasanton (see
enclosed map). Awards will be presented after noon.
Judging and awards are open to the public.
Show &
Tell: Charlie brought his customized digital
temperature probe which works well for beer or whatever
you want to poke that sharp needle-probe into.
Greetings
from the President: It's that time of year again. The
annual Anchor Brewing Homebrew Club of the Year Dinner is
being held February 8th. The Draught Board is allowed to
send four people to this, the best beer party of the
year. Since there is no time to select attendees at the
February 8th meeting, the club officers have submitted
nominations and the following four people have been
tentatively selected:
Roger
St. Denis, for his unstinting support as both
Vice-president and steward.
Mike
Wood, for his contributions in putting together
the club's entry package.
John
Pyles, for all the hard work that he does for
BABO (by Feb 8 he'll deserve a reward and a couple of
beers).
Tom
Baird, for his support of the club.
Group
Brew-In Proposal by Roger St. Denis. I noticed
all the advertising for the AHA 1997 National Homebrew
Competition and thought it might be interesting to
actually brew for it. Now that I keg, like most of us,
the challenging part is bottling and bottle conditioning.
It takes planning and preparation, which is why we don't
do it any more.
Our April
club meeting will on the twelfth, and entries are due
April 28 through May 9. We could taste and score the
entries at the April meeting and even collect those
deemed worthy to pass on at that time for shipping later
in the month.
Check out the
Winter 1996 ZYMURGY for all the details.
