December, 1996 Volume 19, Issue 12 Stewards Report
by Roger St. Denis,
Chief Steward
We had an
excellent showing of strong ales in November.
In-Category:
1) Bob Jones'
strong ale which he entered into Stern Grove. It surely
seemed to be a winner to us.
2) John
Leichel's strong ale which started life as a barley wine,
big and hoppy.
3) Joe
Setzer's strong ale, a year old barley wine attempt that
has held up well. There was still adequate hops flavor
and little oxidation.
4) Harry
Graham brought some wonderful commercial examples of Old
Peculiar and
5) McEwans
Scottish Ale.
6) Bruce
Brazil brought Eye of The Hawk for another commercial
example.
7) John
Leichel. topped off the strong ales with Duvel; it was
wonderful.
Out-of-Category:
8) Dave, our
newest member, brought his first pale ale attempt. He had
been brewing with a friend and the experience has paid
off. We'll be looking forward to the next homebrew Dave
favors us with.
9) Charlie
Webster's brown ale, a lighter style to help us get
prepared for the ride home after the 'big' strong ales at
the beginning.
10) I brought
the 1995 Celebration Ale, a barley wine but no one
complained.
5 homebrews
and 5 commercial beers. Thanks to everyone who brought
beer for the November meeting. I learned a lot and
enjoyed all the strong ales, guess I'll have to brew one
of these in the near future.
