Who’s Growing Hops

From the raffle in June, I was lucky enough to win a Mt. Hood hop plant donated by Bruce Brazil. At five inches tall the hop plant was kind of cute. I read about watering and feeding (root growth the first year, cone production the next years). Two months later the cute little hop plant is nine and a half feet tall and still growing. Since this is my first time growing hops I thought I’d ask around to find out if this is typical. Everyone assures me, It is.

What was interesting to me was the number of people in The Draught Board quietly growing a wide variety of hops. Here is a sample of what we are growing:

Bruce has Clusters and Mt. Hoods.

Paul is growing Willamettes and Fuggles.

Harry and Kim are cultivating Northern Brewers and Chinooks.

Bryan and Lisa have Saaz.

Jim has Hallertauers.

I have not yet spoken with each of you, so I’m sure there are others growing hops. Please drop me a line with your hop crops so we can check in on the progress through the summer.
