August, 1995 Volume 18,
Issue 8 Hopyard Pub On Saturday, July 8th, we met at the Hopyard Pub in Pleasanton. The premise was to hold a joint meeting with the Saaz Brewing Club. This turned out to be a dry run for the time when we actually meet. We familiarized ourselves with the location but have yet to meet with the members of Saaz. There was a large turnout from members and guests of The Draught Board. No official business was conducted, but the May "group-brew" backyard wheats were shared and the August picnic was planned. Samples of wheat beers were numerous and included Harrys Wheat, Rogers Wheat Wine, Charlies Peach Residual Wheat, Kens Extremely Light Wheat (that started as a muddy blue swill), and Toms Wheat. Other tastings included Michelles Porter, Bruces Light Brown Ale, Bock, and Belgian Lager, Bryans Four-Grain Ale (Barley, Oats, Wheat, & Rye), Harrys Nut Brown Ale, Barley Wine, Mead, and the last bottle of Chili Pepper Beer, Rogers Sweet Honey Mead, and Toms Schwarz Bier and award winning Barley Wine and Dopple Bock. The beer selection behind the bar looked pretty good too, but mostly nachos where the main order from the Hopyard Pub. The Potluck/BBQ/Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 5th at John Pyles house in Fremont. Thank you, John. Begin arriving after 10:00 am. Bring your own lawn chairs, homebrew, and a potluck item from the first-letter-of-your-last-name assignment in the next column.
Plates and utensils are provided. Basketball, volleyball, and badminton are available. Dont forget to bring your submissions for the AHA Club Competition. Also bring your award winning recipes to share with the Club. . |
